How to get your medical marijuana card in Texas?

In Texas, there is no such thing as a medicinal marijuana card. Many other states regulate medical marijuana through the use of a state-issued identification card obtained following a consultation with a licensed physician. These cards are good for one to two years, depending on the state.

In 2017, the Compassionate Use Act made medical cannabis legal for the first time, but exclusively for the treatment of intractable epilepsy.

Since then, the legislature has expanded the act to cover a broader range of medical conditions, including all seizure disorders, traumatic brain injury from sports or other forms of physical trauma, all forms of dementia, including vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment, and more.

In Texas, medical marijuana – sometimes known as low-dose THC – is administered similarly to standard medications, with no need for a card. Low-dose THC prescriptions are entered into a database maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety by physicians who have been permitted to do so. The CURT monitoring system is the name of the database system.

Prescriptions are renewed at the discretion of the physician. Depending on the medical diagnosis and intricacy, visits can last anywhere from a few months to a year once a working dose has been obtained.
